Connect an external drive to your Mac via USB, USB-C, or Thunderbolt. and old and new photos from the iCloud Photos don't appear, just iPhoto Library stuff. Once you've done this, it's time to create a new library. The hard drive continued to fill and no optimization seem to be taking place so far. I've read you can alt-click to select an old iPhoto Library, but syncing only works with the default system Library. But I can't go File > Import to select my old iPhoto Library. When I open Photos, it gets all my stuff that's already in the cloud. I'd finally like to use the cloud to store it and ditch the drive (except as back-up).
